Franklinton Woman Jailed After Allegedly Hurling Dog Waste at Deputy Published 12:25 pm Saturday, September 26, 2026 Airport confrontation leads to multiple charges for 56-year-old Franklinton woman A Franklinton woman was arrested following an unusual confrontation at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport after authorities said she threw a bag containing her service dog’s waste at a law enforcement officer. Mary Gaidry, 56, of Franklinton, was arrested Sept. 18 and booked on charges of aggravated assault upon a police officer, battery of an officer with injury, criminal mischief and resisting an officer, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said the incident began while Gaidry was walking through the airport with her service dog, described as a medium-sized shepherd. The dog reportedly defecated on the floor, and Gaidry used a bag to pick up the waste, although some residue remained. According to authorities, Gaidry then approached a nearby security podium and began taking several napkins. A St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy assigned to the area reportedly saw Gaidry at the podium and questioned what she was doing. Officials said Gaidry became verbally aggressive during the exchange and cursed at the deputy before walking away. She reportedly used the napkins to clean the area where the dog had defecated and then began heading toward the exit. Before leaving, however, authorities allege Gaidry turned back toward the deputy and threw the bag she had used to collect the dog waste. The bag struck the deputy in the shoulder. The deputy then drew her Taser and ordered Gaidry to stop, but authorities said Gaidry continued walking. A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to assist and attempted to take Gaidry into custody. According to arrest records, Gaidry refused to surrender her dog’s leash so she could be handcuffed and held it over her head. The responding deputy reported that he forcefully moved Gaidry against a wall in an effort to gain compliance. The deputy suffered a cut to his finger during the encounter, while Gaidry was treated for a cut to her hand, according to the arrest report. Gaidry’s dog was released to a friend before she was transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna. She was released Sept. 21 after posting a $15,000 bond. The charges are allegations, and Gaidry is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Gaidry and her attorney had not responded to requests for comment as of Friday evening.
